$109 Billion per annum Lost In Meaningless Work Tasks
25 Jan 12
A recent report reveals that the average employee workday wastes 18% of time on meaningless work.
The survey of 2500 SME employees finds that employees only spend 58% of their time on work that has real value.
Meaningless work fits into three categories:
- -Internal administration, red tap and meetings;
- -Waiting for IT Systems; and
- -Re-work of errors and defects.
As SME's grow they often struggle to maintain their levels of communication - and therefore employee contentment. Only 62% of respondents claim their organisation operates efficiently and 71% were motivated to do their job to the best of their ability. One third of employees felt their skills were being under utilised and were looking for another job.
SME's need to redirect employee time into growth and innovation. This will aid employee engagement and retention but more importantly add create increased capacity and value to the bottomline.
