A Win for Australian Manufacturing

15 Nov 11

Australia Pacific LNG awards local Manufacturer Vinidex a major contract.

Australia Pacific LNG has contracted Vinidex, a Brisbane based pipe manufacturer to supply more than 3200km of high-density polyethylene plastic pipes to transport gas and water extracted from its production wells in the Surat and Bowen basins to its main treatment plants.

Australia Pacific LNG has stated that it works with local businesses at every possible opportunity to ensure local content in its projects and Vinidex is one of a growing number of local businesses to have input into the project.

As a result of the contract Vinidex is expecting to increase its workforce by at least 50 people and intends to construct a new manufacturing facility in Toowoomba to accomodate this contract and growing work from the coal seam gas and mining industries.

High-density polyethylene plastic is considered the most useful material for the piping of water, oil and gas because of its durability and corrosion resistance.

The Australian Pacific LNG project brings together a joint venture between three industry leaders in the fields of coal seam gas and liquefied natural gas production – Origin (42.5%), ConocoPhillips (42.5%) and Sinopec (15%).

Origin is responsible for construction and operation of the Project’s gas fields and main gas transmission pipeline.

ConocoPhillips is responsible for the construction and operation of the Project’s LNG facility.

Sinopec joined the Project in April 2011 as both the foundation customer and part equity owner.

The Project consists of three key parts:

  • Further development of Australia Pacific LNG’s gas fields in the Surat and Bowen Basins in south-west and central Queensland.
  • Construction of a 520km gas transmission pipeline from the gas fields to an LNG facility on Curtis Island off the coast of Gladstone.
  • An LNG facility on Curtis Island off the coast of Gladstone, with the first two gas production trains processing up to 9 million tonnes per annum.
